India Buildings
THE CHALLENGE
To support the architect with a coppery bronze finish which was durable for a reception area and yet met the needs associated with the refurbishment of a Grade II listed building in Liverpool City Centre. Being a natural product, consistency in shade and aging across the area was also important.
THE SOLUTION
Bradleys recommended Old Penny Bronze from the Metalite Range. With a good copper content, when patinated and waxed this gave a superb finish to the speed gates. Being resin based it provides excellent durability and also has the advantage of being quite a forgiving finish. In a regular traffic area and surface marks can actually become a part of the character of the bronze.
THE DETAIL
Influenced by the Italian Renaissance design and with American Beaux-Arts features, India Buildings is situated in Liverpool and originally built between 1924 and 1932. This outstanding commercial building was bombed in 1941 and later restored to its original condition under the direction of one of its initial architects. Currently used as an HMRC Regional Centre.
